Effective March 31, 2007, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts implemented stricter penalties for drivers under the age of 18 who hold a learner’s permit or a Junior Operator License. These penalties include mandatory attendance at a Driver Attitudinal Retraining Course. Motorists who are required to attend this course will receive a notice from the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles (“RMV”). The RMV may also require such motorists to attend other training programs.
The National Safety Council’s Defensive Driving Course – Alive at 25 program has been approved by the RMV to meet the Driver Attitudinal Retraining Course requirements. These classes are available statewide.
