Defensive Driving Course

New York Defensive Driving Course

State-Specific Requirements

Program details

As an Amica policyholder, you’re eligible to take the National Safety Council’s defensive driving safety course at a discounted price. This course is approved by the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles Internet Point and Insurance Reduction Program.

The course is completely online and takes the average student about six hours to complete. You can also log in and log out, if you’d prefer to take the class in multiple sessions, but the course will expire 30 days after you purchase it. View the course outline.

If you are not satisfied for any reason within 30 days of your purchase and before course completion, SafetyServe offers a money-back guarantee.

Eligibility requirements

Amica’s defensive driver discount applies to drivers of any age, but for youthful drivers (between the ages of 16 and 25) to qualify, they must be the primary driver on the policy. If a driver on your auto insurance policy passes the online course, the discount is applied to their portion of the auto policy for up to three years. The discount will be applied upon the date of completion.

Completing the course

After passing the course, SafetyServe will send your course completion certificate directly to Amica. You can also print a plain paper copy immediately after completion for your personal records. Within 14 days, an official watermarked certificate will also be mailed for your records.
SafetyServe will send your information to the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles, so that the DMV can apply the point reduction to your driving record.
